The first link reminds me of Stuart Buck‘s “Acting White: The Ironic Legacy of Desegregation”. And I think you linked to the wrong xojane piece reacting to Sandy Hook, it was the one complaining about the conflation of mental illness and violence that also said it was white men targeting women (although the claim that women are disproportionately the victims of violence sounds wrong, men have a higher homicide death rate because they’re more likely to be asking for it).
