I would call this a “bleg”, but I hate that neologism. I used to have a plugin for firefox that let me read pdf files inside it. I could switch between html and pdf pages through tabs rather than an entirely separate window. I’ve tried downloading plugins to accomplish that purpose like pdfescape or pdfdownloader but none were what I was looking for. Is that feature just not available for Linux?
Firefox usually has no problem playing embedded media files like EconTalk or Flash videos. However, usually media files in Totem get stuck at 0:00 though it says their playing. As of right now that has reversed, with Totem playing a file just fine (that it couldn’t yesterday) but youtube playing without sound (the video portion runs) and sometimes skipping quickly over segments. Has anyone else had this sort of problem or know how to correct it?

update your flash player. i’ve had all kinds of problems with youtube videos in firefox and everytime i have fixed it by updating my flash.
i don’t know what totem is but i suspect it will be broken like it was before if you update flash.

I use this plugin for pdfs… you can right click on a pdf link and open it in a new tab. It works pretty well but I haven’t tested it out with very large files.

I downloaded the PDF Download program again. I tried opening Turchin’s 300 page book and it failed. Then I tried opening a short pdf. Every time I get the same message than an unknown error occurred and that I should download it to my computer. I still get exact same error message when trying to open pdfs on my computer in Firefox.

This is strange. I started up firefox and went to youtube, where it played fine. Then I started Totem and played the file, which worked fine as well. But after that I couldn’t get sound in firefox. I closed Totem but the problem persisted. Firefox crashed, and when I restarted it, the sound worked again.
